What is a Wicket screen?
The custom wicket screen is one of RiteScreen’s most unique window screen replacement solutions. Featuring a built-in wicket – a small, hinged door within the window screen – these custom window screens enable easy adjustment and access to handles or latches. Window screens with wickets are often preferred in homes, offices, and other spaces where frequent ventilation and controlled window access are key considerations. Handmade in the USA with durable, weather-resistant aluminum, the extruded wicket frame is built to maintain its rigidity and elegant appearance through years of use.

How does a Wicket screen work?
Designed primarily for installation on the inside of your window, the wicket screen features a proprietary hinged wicket system, which is handwoven into the screen’s mesh to provide a level of control over who can access the window. The hinged wicket is specifically designed to open easily, allowing easy access to handles, latches, locks, or other access points used to regulate the opening and closing of your window. If adding multiple wickets to your window, the location will be determined mathematically to ensure they’re strategically placed on the screen for optional functionality with your window. Simply open the wicket and access the window directly, then close the wicket and enjoy your fresh breezes! It doesn’t get easier than that!

Why use a Wicket screen?
RiteScreen’s custom wicket replacement screens boast a myriad of advantages for homeowners seeking a balance between controlled access and convenience. The proprietary hinged wicket installed in the window screen provides an extra layer of control over who can access the window directly. Better still, the extruded aluminum frame is weather-resistant and more robust than other screen frames on the market, providing a superior level of stability and durability. The wicket screen is often preferred in areas where control over window access is equally important to the ventilation it provides – homes, offices, stairwells, bathrooms, hotels, and more!
-
Do your casement window screens open vertically or horizontally?
The wicket is centrally located and this cannot be customized. However, you can select the number of wickets! When adding wickets to your screen, the location will be determined mathematically to function optimally with any latches or access features!

What exactly is a wicket?
A wicket is a small, hinged door, which we place on your window screen to enable easy access to handles and latches on your window. They are traditionally placed on the inside of your window frame with the window on the outside. Wickets traditionally are installed on outward-opening windows and are preferred in many public spaces to prevent frequent tampering with the window’s seal and openness.
-
What is the gauge of the screen mesh?
We have multiple screen mesh options available when customizing your replacement wicket screen – each mesh option has a slightly different gauge. Our standard charcoal fiberglass mesh is 16x18, providing all the ventilation and air filtration you need without obstructing sightlines. Customize to select your mesh type and if you have any questions, our screen specialists are standing by!

Does this window screen open?
This custom window screen cannot be opened, but the wickets of the window screen can be opened for controlled access to your window. While this window screen cannot be opened, it can be removed with ease should the need arise. You have full control over when you use this window screen – remove it in the winter for seasonal cleaning and storage or leave it year-round for uncompromising protection against the outdoors.
