Optimized Screen Spline for Outdoor Screen Replacement Projects

Optimized Screen Spline for Outdoor Window Screen and Patio Door Replacement Projects

Made from a solid rubber material, RiteScreen’s spiral-shaped, vinyl window screen spline offers more rigidity and durability compared to its foam alternatives. Vinyl patio screen spline is often the preferred material by contractors in the field, especially on outdoor screen installations where longevity and weather resistance are key factors. Perfect for building new screens for your windows, patio doors, and screened-in porches, as well as re-screening your existing windows.

Screen spline ensures a snug fit by securely anchoring your screen within the spline channel of your window frame or patio door frame. Ideal for fiberglass and aluminum window screen fabrication alike, RiteScreen’s vinyl spline is available in 3 lengths (25 ft., 100 ft., and 300 ft.) and 4 diameters (.125 in., .140 in., .175 in., and .220 in.).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What material do you use for your screen spline?

RiteScreen’s vinyl screen spline is made from a durable, rubber material that withstands the outdoors better than its foam and plastic alternatives.

  • What size screen spline should I use?

Without knowing your specific screen project, it’s difficult to say which spline will provide the most secure fit. The optimal spline is usually determined by the screening material used. For standard screening material, 0.140” and 0.160” are the most commonly used spline sizes. For thicker screening products, 0.125” is the most common. For more information on what spline is best for your project, contact our team of screen specialists at hello@ritescreen.com!

  • What is window screen spline?

Window screen spline, also referred to commonly as “spline” and “screen spline,” is a thin strip of material, usually rubber or foam, that is laid into the spline channel of your window screen frame to ensure your window screen sits snugly without impeding sightlines.

  • Can I paint the spline to match my window frame?

Generally, it is not recommended to paint the spline as this can affect its performance and flexibility. The screen spline is available in black, which slots seamlessly into the spline channel. In most cases, the black screen spline is nearly undetectable and doesn’t impede sightlines in the slightest!

  • Can the spline be removed and reused?

Though it is possible to remove the spline, it is not recommended for use. While vinyl screen spline is highly durable and withstands use over time, it is not recommended for reuse. Over time, the spline tends to lose some of its flexibility and effectiveness, especially if used multiple times across separate installations or window screen replacements. It is recommended that you use new spline for each window screen installation or window screen replacement.

  • Is your window screen spline easy to install?

Yes! Our spiral-shaped, vinyl spline is designed for easy installation. Lightweight and flexible, simply align the spline with the spline groove in your window frame before using a spline roller tool (available separately) to press it into place, trimming any excess for a clean appearance and uncompromising fit.

  • How do I choose the right size spline for my window screen?

The simplest way to determine your proper spline size is to measure the spline channel in your window frame, also referred to as the “spline groove.” This is where you will insert the spline to ensure a snug fit and tensile rigidity. Make sure to pick a spline size that sits snugly! If it’s too big, the spline won’t fit. If it’s too small, the spline won’t be as effective. For any questions about how to determine your ideal spline size, as well as how to best use the spline for your window screen projects, please contact hello@ritescreen.com!

RiteScreen's DH3 worked perfect for my windows!

The pinching latches allow the screen to stay in place without easily being knocked out. Once latched in, the double hung window screen is extremely secure. This is an excellent product and I would recommend it!"
